Teaching As Eucharist outlines
practical strategies that can be used by teachers at all levels; and
in presenting profound ideas in clear and straightforward prose, she
inspires al of us who teach to reflect on the sacredness of our task.
Berarad L. Marthaler, OFMConv. Executive
Editor, The Living Light
These deeply moving meditations for catechists and
teachers are inspired reading. The Eucharist , so central to our faith,
here becomes the source and sustenance of the teaching ministry....
This is a lovely gift book for all proclaimers of the gospel.
Gwen Costello Publisher, Twenty - Third Publications
Teaching As Eucharist is
a wonderful gift for any catechist. With a forward by Gloria Durka,
it is a spiritual reflection on the analogy of teaching as the act of
eucharist. Joanmarie Smith explores the five actions of Eucharist: Take,
Thank, Bless, Break and Give. She shows how each of these actions is
the same in eucharist as in teaching.
At the end of each of the five explorations she
includes reflections on what was covered in the chapter. It is in these
reflections that the praying catechist will discover the depth and breadth
of the analogy.
Joanmarie loves words; she confesses as much. The words that are examined
in Teaching As Eucharist are powerful and precise. The reader will never
again listen to the words of institution in a careless or blasé
manner after finishing this book.
At the same time the catechist/reader will never be able to separate
what she does as catechist from who she is as worshipper and participant
in the Eucharist. The catechist's teaching will now become an extension
of his spiritual life as a eucharistic person. This is a small but powerful
book.
